Usually I will use a free domain like co.cc at first until I am ready to release my website/blog/forum

I also use TLD. It's not that expensive to buy one and people rather click on TLD links than on .tk links

I personally use my own domain, it's more professional than using a co.cc or .tk

I use co.cc cause I don't have the money to buy a real domain and plus I have a personal site so I have no need in a real domain. But a top level domain does give you site that extra bump.
