Many reason, but most because:
1. It's free
2. It's really easy to edit them templates with the editor (most other forum softwares don't have it)
3. It's a light forum software but has so many features, plus the plugin database is very nice as well.
4. Friendly community that actually helps you even when the question may be something so simple and doesn't call you names or make fun of you.
5. Very nice themes that are free, and even better themes that are paid for.

There's very little I don't like about MyBB to be honest xD The team behind it are really friendly and helpful, there is a vast array of plugins to use, and the amount of customisation possible is just plain awesome.

Once I found MyBB I have never gone back to any of the other forum software I used to use. I love how easy the templates are to manipulate and change so that you can make anything and everything look exactly how you want it. I'm a bit of a customisation nut, so it's just heaven to see all the things you can change, especially seeing I have a specific look in my head for my forums and such =3

It's a great easy to use software, I've been using v1.3 IPB (invisionfree) and it just took so many scripts to mod the things that come standard with myBB, oh and it's free c:
