If you're wanting to become a member within one of the higher ranked usergroups (such as; Support Team or Management) you would need to devote your time to contributing and helping out the community. It's not my decision and Nickman would be in charge of who receives a promotion or a position in the moderation team. You can apply for a position by clicking

If you would like a higher post ranking you would need to begin creating more replies to threads and more new topics on MyBBSource's forums. Stars appear underneath your username whenever you continue posting. I am unaware of the post count rankings because I'm not an Administrator, although if you contact Nickman through the private messaging system he'd hopefully provide you with the information.
Regarding username changes; I don't believe regular users can change their usernames. I think you must become a Premium Subscriber on MyBBSource in order to acquire a new username. You can purchase a Premium Subscription by clicking
HERE. I'm not entirely certain though, it doesn't mention username changes in the premium benefits. I can change my username, only because I'm part of the Support Team.
