WOW!

Edit: We (Svizy and myself) believe this may get out of hand.

Again CCalby:

Firstly, you've left out the important explanation:
(05-27-2010 06:37 AM)Ryan Gordon Wrote:  We are certainly not "eradicating" paid plugin or theme authors.

Again, I urge everyone to refrain from speculation until we have the blog post up. Right now we are not actively enforcing any changes until the blog post is up.

I also certainly want to make it clear that the changes we have right now will only affect the MyBB Community Forums. It will not affect any other part of MyBB.

These changes will be good for everyone. Just give us some time so we don't rush out an unpolished, incomplete blog post.

Secondly, MyBBSource doesn't sell plugins so that "premium" membership could be considered as a donation to MyBBSource for releasing those great plugins. However, you're correct about the themes, they could be either removed or made free like everything else so everyone can enjoy it.

You still don't get it do you?

These changes will currently effect ONLY MyBB.com and its community forums which means that MyBBCentral and MyBB-Plugins are "safe" according to Ryan Gordon.

I'm going to make this committment. If indeed you eradicate all paid plugins and decide they are against the license then I'm going to release all my work GPL. Future work will probably be greatly effected but my existing work would be released

Yeah, this basicly means that those who recently subscribed to MyBBCentral, got kicked in their <you know what> and that every unsubscriber is now worshiping MyBB for making this policy, since they will get the "paid" plugin for free, yeepi! Go MyBB, you got the domain, now you can stop caring about those who donated -.-

Yeah, Labrocca has closed MyBBCentral - at least for the time being. I can see why MyBB would block the selling of plugins via the community forums, but third parties should certainly be allowed (so long as the plugin is worth selling of course).

RE: Plugins and MyBB
Yeah. I'm mostly wondering about the future of ShopMyBb though. It, as a project, is just starting out and certainly seemed to have a great deal of potential behind it. These licensing queries and issues may just get in the way of the great service.

Labrocca has already stated that he'll release his current plugins, but future ones may not be released at all. This would be a massive blow to MyBB on a whole - the best plugin developers out there are offering paid plugins and they could be blocked from their actions. With the main attraction of MyBB being the plugin system, a clear resolution will no doubt arise very soon.

Reminds me of the way EyeOS works.
And they've been pretty succesful, so i support this approach.
