With the release of MyBB 1.6 BETA, many people will start to upgrade their forums to 1.6 to enjoy its awesome features. Upgrading MyBB 1.4.13 to 1.6 is really no different than upgrading any MyBB version, however here is a step by step tutorial
First,
you need to download MyBB 1.6 BETA here and extract it using WinRAR, WinZIP or a similar program. Now, turn off your forum and deactivate all your plugins in your forum to be safe and makes sure nothing bad will happen. It is also a good idea to take a database backup and a file backup of your forum incase you need to return to MyBB 1.4.13.
Second, Open a FTP client (FileZilla for example) and overwrite all your existing forum files.
Now, CHMOD the files listed here to the value listed here.
Third, go to youdomain.com/forumfolder/install/upgrade.php and run the upgrade script. Make sure you select 1.4.13 for the version you are upgrading from. Now, check in the ./install/ folder that a folder named "lock" was created, if it wasn't, create a folder there named "lock"
Forth, log onto your forum and make sure everything works well, You must remove all your plugins though unless they are 1.6 compatible. Once you have confirmed everything is working correctly, open your board and enjoy the wonderful new features!
