MyBB Source

1. Download the lastest verison of MyBB from the MyBB Official site (MyBBoard.net)
2. Next, turn of your forum so no one may view it, go to Admin CP > Configuration > Settings > Board Online / Offline and setting "Board Offline" to yes.
3. Deactivate ALL plugins
4. Backup all your forum files and obtain a database backup in-case something goes wrong.
   

Using an FTP client, upload all the files of the uploads folder to your forum root. Make sure these new files overwrite the old ones.

CHMOD the following files to 777
./inc/settings.php
./inc/config.php
./uploads/
./uploads/avatars/
./cache
./cache/themes

[ONLY IF STATED IN RELEASE] Go to .forumsubfolder/install/upgrade.php and you will see a list of MyBB versions, select your version from that list. Continue on with the update script and read the instructions carefully.

CHMOD ./inc/config.php to 755

Check out your forum and make sure there is no bugs or errors in your new forum and reopen your forum.

Sometimes you do not need to run the upgrader script.

Most times you do Usually when a new release is released, It will say either you do or your don't have to run the updater.

i dont see why you have to do so .. explain please

It is recommended however may not be needed. I have rarely seen a problem when upgrading because of a plugin however it is recommended since its better to be safe than sorry
