RE: phpbb or mybb ?
Wrong! That's opinionated! At first I thought phpBB was sooo great, but it's a pain to work with. The permissions are by far the most annoying. :(
Installing plugins, a lot harder. (MyBB - upload files, activate in acp.)

RE: phpbb or mybb ?
1: You don't want people to be able to register, but be able to view it? Correct?
2: You asking how to change servers? That's pretty easy with MyBB.

RE: phpbb or mybb ?
1. You can set it so that all registrations require admin activation, and make it so they can't see anything until you activate them, if this is what you need.
2. If you want to change server, make a database backup, make a .zip archive of all your files, upload the files to the new host, make a new database, uploads your backup to it, and then edit ./inc/config.php to add in the new database details. Everything should be fine then.

Well MyBB is powerful over PHPBB in many ways!
Like plugin & addons are easy to install and use!
Templates are easy to edit!
While PHPBB has more support over internet. More addons. More big community!

RE: phpbb or mybb ?
thats not a plugin it comes with mybb... go to user groups in the admincp and there you can set the number of starts for users in that group...

RE: phpbb or mybb ?
mybb all the way. Phpbb hit v3 and didn't do anything right. phpbb 2 was easy and simple, but it's way outdated. I am working on fixing that. Or will be when all my other projects are finished.
But mybb is the best. It's simple, clean (internally and externally), and powerful. Phpbb 3 is decently powerful, unclean (both internally and externally though not as bad as some), and very difficult.
