I actually use gimp now, and linux rather than windows and paint.net. pinta is a lot like paint.net for linux, windows, and mac, but it still doesn't quite work as good as paint.net. Gimp though is tons more powerful. I have tried to use ps many times, and it has a higher learning curve. I prefer to do things a bit more manual, and gimp is definitely for me. (I am using the beta of the new one though, older one is missing stuff) Here is some of my newer work.
The text is a little hard to read, but you can ignore that anyways.

I will try to fix the image in the first post as well.
The older image links are broken because I took down that site. That is why you cannot see them.
