Try this, go to the Configuration tab in the Admin CP, then click on the "Awards" setting group. Breeze right through the settings, make sure they all are enabled, and then click on "Save Settings," and try refreshing the topic view.

It didn't work right away for me either, I had to go in and confirm the settings, but now its working with no problem, in both classic and modern postbits.
