You can add a banner (if you mean the MyBB donation-drive) by editing the header template.
You can put advertisements after first post with a plugin ( Ads after first post(free), MyAdvertisements(paid) and My Ad Manager(paid)). I personally would recommend you MyAdvertisements which is made by Pirata Nervo and I must say its the best advertisement plugin in my opinion
