Getting started with MyBB development
I've browsed a lot of forums giving help on MyBB development, but none really help that much. I'm beginning to think that learning it is not worth it as there are so many plugins now anyway. Anyone else agree?

Yes I agree and at the same time I don't. Yes there are loads of plugins out there but it is always good to know how to make a plugin so you can make something you want exclusively for your site alone or a plugin which hasn't been made yet, that way you don't have to rely on anyone.

Well, as far as I know there are some awesome plugin making tutorials on MyBB sites. You probably haven't seen this one yet, because the site is quite unpopulated, but Dhfola explains it a lot better than Labrocca did in his tutorial (in my opinion). Dhfola is also a great theme designer and you may learn something from downloading one of his themes or order one from him (he is quite cheap)

And I disagree, its always fantastic to know how to make your own plugin as Kdog2fast said, you can't rely on other plugin makers all the time (like me for example), if nothing else, you get to keep the money which you may be end spending for MyBB plugin site subscriptions. But you can't expect that there will be a complete newcomer tutorial for those of us who are not very familiar with PHP, because then everyone would be able to make plugins and there wouldn't be any bussines in this

If you really want to develop mybb, you can register at mybboard.net

MYBB is opensource, so expect lots of plugs, it's normal and honestly without the plugs, MYBB would somehow suck.

Nothing beats experience, so I also disagree.
You are correct about MyBB having a large amount of plugins, but it helps to learn yourself.

Look up hooks on the MyBB wiki, once you understand those you will be much closer to being able to do anything.

I've bookmarked his site, thanks for the tip.
