The free host always seem to be more reliable than the paid ones!

Your kidding right? Then you are going with some shady cheap hosts. I've had one bad experience with a paid host and that's because I just went cheap and didn't do my research.

Trust me, I don't go cheap with my hosting, unlimited everything all the way usually! But I have never experiecned downtime with a free host, whereas the payed hosts either offer more than they can give or mess about with their set-up too often which causes downtime. My host claim to have 99.9% uptime and their uptime is very good, but often the server speeds are slow etc (it is a fairly well reviewed host)

Umm those hosts are usually cheap. Trust me if you would fall for that scam your not looking at good quality hosts. Look over at Webhostingtalk.com and most people can name all the hosts you probably used for $7-$10 a month as over sellers and what they offer is in impossible. I don't use hosts don't offer actual reasonable plans (like where my shared hosting isn't even close to a size of a good sized hard drive).
