I guess the best software comes from vbulletin (so I voted for them) but their software is paid only so I chose mybb for my personal forum (PcCom.info - the computer community)

Certainly MyBB, vBulletin, and phpBB. I like MyBB because of its addon compatibility. I like vBulletin beause of its features and all. phpBB comes in at third place because it's just okay, but by far (i think) the largest spread.

YOU FORGOT ZETABOARDS!!!

Zetaboards isn't software available though.
You only get hosting from them. And your only option is to get it from them, you can't install on your own site.
