hi does any one know what template i need to edit to but a logo on my main index page and also a banner please

You need to edit header.php to change your sites logo. You can also do it in the theme's settings so its not necesary to edit any template at all

where would i put a banner for a another website ? like a sponser <spelt wrong> lol

Its up to you. Some themes have build-in places where you can place advertisements, but most don't have that. Its really up to you to decide where to put sponsors, I would suggest you to put them in the footer

will the footer show up on main index page m8 ?

Yes, footer is shown on every page. Footer is basicly the bottom of the forum, you can see that this forums footer has an MyBBSource logo in it and an navigation bar

I don't know what you mean by explain, but you just have to edit the templates. As for sponsors and stuff, you can choose where to put them. Usually the footer is the best place to put them, but of course, it's your choice.
