It's quite hard to tell whether a new post has been posted or not by basing it on the on/off icons. How about changing them a bit and making them more distinguishable from each other?

Exactly. That's why I started using the search for new posts link.

Kind of the same for me. I'd suggest using the "View New Posts", it's awesome.

That's what I use, too.

I think the current ones get the job done but perhaps some new ones would spice things up a bit.

Just a different color or different image will do. That way you can notice it quicker.
