I have a question, I hope you don't mind. Before I download this, does this feature apply to newly registered users? I hope it is, I don't want to annoy them by getting them to this page every time they log in

No Gum, it's only forced upon them once.

Another question, when I log in the site it automatically redirects me to the thread, that's good.
But it does not show any warning or info message with an 'Ok' button as I expected.

Is that normal or did I forget something?
